Continuing my interest in programming and astronomy, I decided to build some models of stellar interiors. I would like to develop more sophisticated models in the future, but for now these are polytropes, which give a good qualitative description of some stars.
- Derivation. This page is my exposition of the mathematics of polytropes. This is explained better elsewhere, but I couldn’t write the program unless I understood the mathematics, and the only way to do this was to develop it myself.
- Computation. This page explains the connection between the mathematical solution of polytropic models and actual physical parameters.
- Polytrope models. This page hosts the actual program that builds stellar models from basic physical parameters of stars, e.g., mass/radius or core density/temperature.
